At the end of the year, the company is once again focusing its attention on the Witten and Bochum region. This year, OCS is supporting two local projects with donation cheques worth \u20ac10,000 each: the Witten palliative care network and K\u00e4lte Engel Bochum.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bochum, 16 December 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We had the pleasure of welcoming Dr Matthias Th\u00f6ns, board member and co-founder of the Witten Palliative Care Network, to the OCS headquarters. Dr Th\u00f6ns is considered one of Germany&#8217;s leading experts in palliative medicine. This year, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his extraordinary commitment to palliative care and his dedication to dignified dying.<br \/>\nDr Th\u00f6ns is passionately committed to establishing and developing palliative care networks in Bochum and Witten. The aim of these networks is to provide holistic care for seriously ill people. The focus is on close coordination between medicine, nursing and hospice work. He wants to help alleviate fears, relieve pain, respect wishes and take concerns seriously. \u2018It is possible to die happily,\u2019 explains Dr Th\u00f6ns. Contentment and gratitude \u2013 for example, through pain-free days, regular visits or time spent with family \u2013 can have a positive impact on this final stage of life. As Dr Th\u00f6ns points out, the proportion of people in Witten who are cared for in a place of their choice until the end is well above the national average.
